In1987,NASAastronautCaptainWilliam"Buck"Rogers(GilGerard)ispilotingthespaceshuttleRanger3whenhefliesintoanunexpectedspacephenomenonandisfrozenfor504years.Intheyear2491,hisshuttleisfounddriftinginspacebythealienflagshipDraconia,whichisheadedtoEarthforatradeconference,underthecommandofPrincessArdala(PamelaHensley)andheraide-de-camp,Kane(HenrySilva),aformernativeofEarth.RogersisrevivedfromhiscryogenicsleepandisquestionedbytheprincessandKane.PrincessArdalaisvisiblyattractedtoBuck,thoughKanearrangesforBucktobeplacedbackonhisshuttleandreturnedtowardsEarth.ItturnsoutthattheDraconiansareactuallyplanningtoconquerEarththroughstagedpirateattacksonEarth’sshippingfleet,forcingEarthtoseekatreatywiththeDraconiansandunwittinglyopeninguptheirdefensestotheinvaders.TheyplantahomingbeaconaboardRogers’shuttletotrackawaythroughEarth’splanet-widedefenseshield.BucklandsinNewChicagoandisimmediatelytakenintocustodybyColonelWilmaDeering(ErinGray),commanderofEarth’smilitaryforces.HeisinterrogatedandlearnsthatEarthhasbeenrebuiltoverthecenturiesinhisabsencefollowinganuclearholocaust,andnowmuchofEarthoutsidethishugecityisadesolate,radioactivewasteland.Overthecourseofhistimeindetention,BuckmeetsDr.EliasHuer(TimO’Connor)theleaderofEarth’sDefenseDirectorate,theAIcomputerDr.Theopolis,andtherobotdroneTwiki(voiceofMelBlanc),mostofwhomattempttohelphimadjusttohiscurrentsurroundings.WhilerecountinghisencounterwiththeDraconians,BucknoticesseveraldiscrepanciesandsuspectsthattheDraconiansmustbearmed,contrarytothetermsofthetrademeeting.Againstadvice,BuckventuresoutsidethecitytotheruinsofoldChicagoinanattempttofindoutthatwhathehasbeentoldisreal,eventuallyfindinghisownparents’graveandhavingtoberescuedbyWilmaandhertroopsfromthemutantsinhabitingtheruins.FollowingBuck’sreturntotheInnerCity,theDraconiantrackingdeviceisfoundaboardhisshuttle,andtheauthoritiesaccuseBuckofespionageandsentencehimtodeath.BuckclaimsthattheDraconianssimplyusedhim,andeventuallyWilmapersuadesDr.HuertoproveBuck’sclaimsbyrequestingameetingwithPrincessArdalaandKaneaboardtheDraconia.Duringthemeeting,thepirateships(actuallyDraconianmarauders)attacktheirflagshipasadiversion,butBuckmanagestodestroythemsingle-handedly,thusearningWilma’srespect.AttheofficialdiplomaticreceptiononEarth,Ardala,stillattractedtoBuck,inviteshimbacktotheDraconia.BuckusestheinvitationtogoaboardandfindoutthetruthbehindtheDraconians’scheme.Ontheship,ArdalainformsBucksheneedsamansuchashimtorulebyhersideandoffersBucktheposition.AfterdruggingArdala,BuckexplorestheshipanddiscoverstheirmaraudersandplanstolaunchanimminentattackonEarth.Dr.TheopolisandTwiki,whohavefollowedBuckaboard,eventuallymeetupwithhimandalertEarthtotheDraconianinvasion.WilmaimmediatelyscramblesEarth’sstarfightersandattackstheDraconia,whileBucksabotagestheDraconianmarauderspreparedtoattackEarthandfightsoffArdala’sbodyguard,Tigerman.Duringthebattle,theDraconiaiscriticallydamaged,butBuck,TheopolisandTwikiarerescuedbyWilmabeforetheshipexplodes.ArdalaandKanealsoescapebeforetheDraconia’sdestructioninanescapeshuttle,whileKanevowstoreturnandtotakehisrevengeonRogers.by:www.mke6.com
